Simple Farmhouse

This beautiful home is located on thousands of acres of land that is the site of a marvelous pear orchard.  It is where architect Paul Wiseman group up, and where he collaborated with others to create this home for his childhood friend.  It was featured in AD in June 2007 and remains one of my favourite modern buildings.

I love that this vernacular structure, with it's concrete floors, white walls and ridiculously high ceilings, manages to feel warm and inviting.  An open redwood kitchen sets the tone for the space, with rich woods repeating throughout in furnishings and window trims.  Natural fibre floors, and simple linens, keep the relaxed comfort of a traditional farmhouse.  The master suite is perhaps one of my favourite rooms, with a full wall of built in shelves to house a collection of great reads as well as glass pears, and other interesting objects.
